Animation - Standard
The recommended process for animating something on a PowerPoint slide:
Click on the text, image or shape to be animated
Click on the box that just appeared around the item (This ensures that the entire item is selected)
Now to animate the selected item:
Office 2000/2003 > Tools > Custom Animation > click the "Add Effect" button > Entrance > choose an subtle "Entrance" effect (like "Fade")
Office 2007/2010 > Animations > choose an subtle "Entrance" effect (like "Fade") > click the "Animation Pane" button to display the animation list
The animation should now be listed in the "pane" to the right of the slide and look something like this:
The "drop-down" arrow at the right end of the animation provides access to several helpful options that will be used in later techniques.
